Acts 12:1-19

Acts 12:1-19 About that time Herod the king laid violent hands on some who belonged to the church.  2  He killed James the brother of John with the sword,  3  and when he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to arrest Peter also. This was during the days of Unleavened Bread.  4  And when he had seized him, he put him in prison, delivering him over to four squads of soldiers to guard him, intending after the Passover to bring him out to the people.  5  So Peter was kept in prison, but earnest prayer for him was made to God by the church. 6  Now when Herod was about to bring him out, on that very night, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries before the door were guarding the prison.  7  And behold, an angel of the Lord stood next to him, and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him, saying, “Get up quickly.” And the chains fell off his hands.

Acts 11:19-30

Acts 11:19-30 Now those who were scattered because of the persecution that arose over Stephen traveled as far as Phoenicia and Cyprus and Antioch, speaking the word to no one except Jews.   20  But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who on coming to Antioch spoke to the Hellenists [ c ]   also,   preaching the Lord Jesus.   21  And   the hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number who believed   turned to the Lord.   22  The report of this came to the ears of the church in Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch.   23  When he came and saw   the grace of God, he was glad, and he exhorted them all to remain faithful to the Lord   with steadfast purpose,   24  for he was a good man,   full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And a great many people   were added to the Lord.   25  So Barnabas went to   Tarsus to look for Saul,   26  and when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. Fo

Acts 11;1-18

Acts 11:1-18 Now the apostles and the brothers who were throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God.     So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcision party criticized him, saying,   “You went to uncircumcised men and ate with them.”     But Peter began and explained it to them in order:   “I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision, something like a great sheet descending, being let down from heaven by its four corners, and it came down to me.     Looking at it closely, I observed animals and beasts of prey and reptiles and birds of the air.     And I heard a voice saying to me, ‘Rise, Peter; kill and eat.’   But I said, ‘By no means, Lord; for nothing common or unclean has ever entered my mouth.’     But the voice answered a second time from heaven, ‘What God has made clean, do not call common.’   This happened three times, and all was drawn up again into heaven.     And behol

Acts 10:24-48

Acts 10:24-48 The next day he rose and went away with them, and some of the brothers from Joppa accompanied him.    And on the following day they entered Caesarea. Cornelius was expecting them and had called together his relatives and close friends. When Peter entered, Cornelius met him and fell down at his feet and worshiped him.    But Peter lifted him up, saying, “Stand up; I too am a man.”   And as he talked with him, he went in and found many persons gathered.    And he said to them, “You yourselves know how unlawful it is for a Jew to associate with or to visit anyone of another nation, but God has shown me that I should not call any person common or unclean.    So when I was sent for, I came without objection. I ask then why you sent for me.” And Cornelius said, “Four days ago, about this hour, I was praying in my house at the ninth hour, [ d ]  and behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing  31  and said, ‘Cornelius
Acts 10:9-23 The next day, as they were on their journey and approaching the city,   Peter went up   on the housetop about   the sixth hour   to pray.   And he became hungry and wanted something to eat, but while they were preparing it, he fell into   a trance   and saw   the heavens opened and something like a great sheet descending, being let down by its four corners upon the earth.     In it were all kinds of animals and reptiles and birds of the air.   And there came a voice to him:   “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.”     But Peter said, “By no means, Lord;   for I have never eaten anything that is   common or   unclean.”     And the voice came to him again a second time,   “What God has made clean, do not call common.”     This happened three times, and the thing was taken up at once to heaven.   Now while Peter was inwardly perplexed as to what   the vision that he had seen might mean, behold,   the men who were sent b
