Psalm 94:1-23
Turmoil and trials are a part of living in the middle of a
perverse and sinful world. There are
many times that we will feel like the events surrounding us are completely out
of control. The wicked and evil men may
seem to be in control while those who fear God may seem to be suffering at the
hands of the wicked. This may seem wrong
and unfair to us but we must not fall into doubt and despair. We must trust that God is in control and that
He does know what he is doing no matter how much suffering we may need to face. When we feel this way we can follow the
example of the Psalmist and cry out to the Lord.
GOD WILL DISCIPLINE THE UNJUST: It is absolutely true that
the unjust will be judged according to their deeds and the righteous standard
of God. Even though it may not always
appear that this is the case, God is faithful to do so. The wicked and proud may seem triumphant;
they may boast of their victories and they may even trample down the faithful
and the helpless. Orphans and widows are
often their prey and they don’t seem to suffer because of it. Their confidence rises because it appears
that God does not see and that He cannot hear of their terrible exploits. They are sorely mistaken! God knows everything from our actions, our words
and our thoughts. He will call all of
them count and He will bring all of them to ruin. This is a very stern warning that should help
all of us to realize that prosperity is not always a sign of God’s blessing and
trials are not always a sign of God’s displeasure. Things are not always as they seem.
GOD WILL DEFEND THE JUST: Those who hear the Law of the Lord
and obey Him by responding to His discipline will be blessed and God will
defend them. God will eventually bring
refreshment to those who have suffered under injustice. God does not turn from His own and He will
bring the wicked to judgment. At just
the right time the Lord will make His way known and He will bring the deliverance
that we so desperately need. He will
keep His children from falling and place them on solid ground. God’s way and His Word will always prevail. God will bring an end to the way of the
wicked and he will defend the way of the just.
We can trust Him to do this according to His will and His timing even
when our observations do not make this truth clear.
