Ezekiel 40:1-49
Ezekiel is called to have a vision of a great city on a high
mountain where there is a great temple.
The description of this building is in great detail and there are very specific
details given for the building that remind us of the details given for the
building of the tabernacle in the wilderness as well as the details recorded of
the temple that Solomon built. Since the
day of Ezekiel there has never been a structure of this size in Israel. The temple built by Ezra after the time of
the exile was not this big or grand. The
most logical conclusion as to the meaning of this vision is that the
construction of this temple must still be in the future. This would only make sense as the judgment of
Gog in the previous chapters also seems to be depicting events in the future.
THE CITY WILL BE RESTORED: Ezekiel is given a vision of a
grand city in a grand location where this massive temple will be built. This is a great message of hope for the
people who are living in exile to know that the Lord continues to have a plan
for them and they will be restored to the land that had been promised to them
in an everlasting covenant. God will
always keep His promises even though it may take many generations; God is
always faithful.
THE TEMPLE WILL BE REBUILT: Not only will the city of Jerusalem
be rebuilt, but there will be a very grand temple built in this city. Ezekiel is told to measure the wall and the
rooms surrounding the outside are of the temple. These are specific measurements that would
allow a person to make a blueprint of the structure. A time is coming where there will once again
be a temple in Jerusalem and the worship of our Lord will be a vital part of
the lives of the children of Israel.
