Deuteronomy 27:1-26

God is faithful to both instruct and warn His people.  He wants us to be obedient to His instructions and He wants us to be aware of the price of disobedience that we will experience should we choose to ignore or rebel against His Word.  God is holy, faithful and just, He longs for His children to experience the joy and satisfaction of obeying Him, but He is also very much ready to bring suffering and hardship into the lives of those who turn from Him.  The path of obedience and the path of rebellion are distinct and clearly marked and they lead to very different places in our walk with the Lord.  Obedience leads to joy; while rebellion leads to judgment.

WE MUST REMEMBER THE WORD OF THE LORD: When the children of Israel came into the land on the other side of the Jordan, they were to build an altar and worship the Lord.  They were also to erect stones, cover them with plaster and record the Law of the Lord on these stones.  These would stand as an everlasting reminder of their knowledge of the Word of God as well as their commitment to obey the Word of God.  We have been given greater access to the Word of God than any generation prior to ours; however we also have a great tendency to neglect that Word.  God’s desire for this, and every generation is that we pay close attention to His Word.  We must constantly keep the Word of God before our hearts and most importantly, we must be committed to obeying the Word of God.

WE MUST RECOGNIZE THE WRATH OF THE LORD: The children of God were also called to repeat the fact that those who chose to disobey God’s Law were under the curse of God.  There is a very high price to pay for living in disobedience to the Word of God as it brings about the wrath of God.  God gives us the freedom to choose the path of obedience or disobedience.  However, He does not give us the ability to choose the consequences of our decision.  We will face death and destruction as a result of disobedience.  Men today like to think that they can live any way that they want without any consequences.  The truth is that they will suffer greatly for living in this way and they will be cursed by God and experience the wrath of God in their lives.
