1 Chronicles 15:1-29

David decides, once again, to bring the Ark to Jerusalem, only this time he does it the correct way.  He prepared place to receive it and he ordered that the Ark be transported according to the instructions of the Word of God.  David had learned a valuable lesson from his first attempt to bring the Ark and now he is committed to doing this in a way that is pleasing to the Lord.  When we believe that we know what God wants us to do, we must be careful to study the Word of God to see how He wants us to do those things to which He calls us.  God’s Word is the clear source for the instruction that we need to be able to please Him in all that we do.
DAVID SEPARATES THE LEVITES TO CARRY THE ARK OF THE LORD: This is where David had made his mistake the first time that he tried to move the Ark.  He had put it on a cart instead of had the Levites carry the Ark.  Now he has done his “homework” and has studied to the Scriptures to see exactly how God had instructed the people to move the Ark.  Once he was convinced of the truth as to how to go about carrying the Ark, he was diligent to put those instructions into action.  He called the Levites together and instructs them to prepare themselves for this task by sanctifying themselves before the Lord.  God wants us to do His work in the way that He has instructed and is concerned that we be holy and true before Him as we seek to serve Him.  We must never be negligent of the Word of God when we seek to do the work of God.

DAVID CONSECRATES THE LEVITES TO WORSHIP THE LORD: David also calls the Levites to prepare themselves to worship the Lord as they carry the Ark.  This is a very special day and David wants to make sure that the people are focused on worshiping the Lord with singing, dancing and the playing of various instruments.  David did not want to be the focus of this occasion; he wanted the nation to be focused on worshiping the Lord with a pure heart.  He ordered that sacrifices be made to purify the group of Levites from their sin and then he consecrated them for the ministry that they were about to perform.  We need to make sure that our focus is always on the Lord and that all that we do is an act of worship before Him.  We need to be committed to the Lord and clean before Him as we are washed by the precious blood of Christ.

DAVID CELEBRATES WITH THE PEOPLE BEFORE THE LORD: David joins in this celebration and dances with the people as he sings praises to the Lord together with all of the Levites and the congregation of Israel.  This is a glorious time of rejoicing as the Ark is brought back to the city.  It symbolizes the presence and power of God and David desperately wants to experience God’s presence and he trusts in God’s power.  This truly was a day of rejoicing and David is not concerned with the dignity of his position as king; he is simply concerned with worshiping the Lord and praising Him together with the people of God.  God is pleased when we praise him and we need to rejoice as we worship the Lord and not be concerned with what others may be thinking of us or of our own dignity.  Our focus in worship must be centered on celebrating the greatness of our Lord.
