1 Corinthians 15:24-28

Then comes the end, when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power.  For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.  The last enemy to be destroyed is death.  For “God has put all things in subjection under his feet.” But when it says, “all things are put in subjection,” it is plain that he is excepted who put all things in subjection under him.  When all things are subjected to him, then the Son himself will also be subjected to him who put all things in subjection under him, that God may be all in all.

Authority is an important concept to understand.  There are human authorities and there is a divine authority.  No matter how high a person may rise in human authority it is important to understand that all are under the authority of God.  He is in charge and any authority we exercise is simply a reflection of His image.  All people everywhere answer to Christ who has been place over all for the glory of the Father.

EVERYONE IS SUBJECT TO CHIRST: At the fall, man rebelled against God.  The mission of God has been to restore mankind since that tragic event.  Satan and man have placed themselves in opposition to God and His authority.  God is bringing all who believe into joyful and peaceful fellowship with Him under His authority.  He is also bringing those remain in rebellion against God under His judgment.  Either way all of creation is subject to Christ either willingly or by force.  The judgment is sure.  Even death itself will be placed in subjection to Christ as demonstrated in His resurrection.

THE FATHER SUBJECTS ALL TO CHRIST:  Creation has been put under the authority of Christ by the Father.  The Trinity is united in working to bring all of the creation under the rule of Jesus.  This is the determination of the Father and empowered by the Spirit.  God has authorized the Lord Jesus to go forth and bring the entirety of creation under His own authority.  This is accomplished in the cross, the resurrection and the coming judgment of all mankind.

THE SON SUBJECTS HIMSELF TO THE FATHER: The reason that the Son brings creation under His authority is not for His own glory, but for the glory of the Father.  Once the mission of our Lord has been accomplished, He will subject Himself and all the creation with Him under the authority of the Father.  This is the order of the universe and it is how existence will continue for eternity.

APPLICATION: Be submissive to the authority of Christ.  Warn others of the coming judgment and help bring them under the authority of Christ through faith in the cross so they might avoid being placed under His authority through judgment.  Give all glory to God for the accomplishments of the Gospel.
