Ephesians 6:21-24

So that you also may know how I am and what I am doing, Tychicus the beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord will tell you everything.  I have sent him to you for this very purpose, that you may know how we are, and that he may encourage your hearts.  Peace be to the brothers, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.  Grace be with all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with love incorruptible.

The distinguishing mark of believers is love.  Paul loves the believer in Ephesus and knows that they love him too.  This letter closes with a personal update and a blessing from Paul.  The relationships of believers should be marked by this kind of encouragement.

A CURRENT UPDATE: Paul is writing from prison and wants his readers to know how he and his team are doing.  As members of the body of Christ we should care deeply for one another.  It is a blessing to be a part of the family of God.  No matter where we are from in the world and no matter how different our cultures might be, we are brothers and sisters in Christ.  There is a love and bond that we have in Christ that draws us together.  It is important for us to communicate with one another so we can help serve each other more effectively.

A FINAL BLESSING: Paul sends his blessing to the church as he prays that they will experience the peace of God, love one another, have abiding faith and live according to God’s grace.  These are all gifts from God that are available to every believer.  We must learn to depend on Him and be grateful for these blessings.  Satan will do all he can to spread conflict, hatred, mistrust, and cruelty.  We are called to enjoy God’s blessings and to desire them for our family of faith.

APPLICATION: Develop strong bonds within the body of Christ and faithfully communicate with one another. Enjoy the blessings of our salvation and strive to pass them on to others through prayer and encouragement.
