1 Peter 1:10-12

Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the grace that was to be yours searched and inquired carefully, inquiring what person or time the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glories.  It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in the things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the good news to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look.

Our salvation in Christ is a precious treasure we are blessed and honored to possess.  The privilege of living after the coming of Christ is a glorious gift.  The prophets of the Old Testament looked forward to this day, wrote about it, but never saw it.  The angels in heaven are amazed at the grace of God lavished upon us by the Father through the Son from the Spirit.  We truly live in glorious times.

THE PROPHETS PREDICTED OUR SALVATION: God’s plan of redemption was determined before the foundations of the earth.  However, it was revealed to man in a slow and progressive manner.  Abraham knew things that Adam did not, and Moses knew things that Abraham did not and so on.  The prophets spoke of the sufferings of Christ, but there is no way they could have fully known all that we know about the incarnation, crucifixion, and resurrection.  They prophesied concerning the indwelling ministry of the Holy Spirit but did not experience it themselves.  We are greatly blessed by the revelation we have and the salvation we enjoy.

THE ANGELS ADMIRE OUR SALVATION: Not only would the prophets of the past be amazed by the salvation we have been given; the angels are also astounded by the love and grace God has extended to us through the sacrifice of the Son and the power of the Spirit.  Angels are created beings who minister according to God’s direction.  They know Him and can relate to Him in ways that we do not fully understand or experience.  However, they marvel at the plan of salvation God enacted to bring us to Himself.

APPLICATION: Pay close attention to the revelation we have been given and believe it with all our heart. Worship the Lord for His marvelous grace and love as the angels do.  Believe and be grateful for the Gospel.
