1 Kings 4:1-34

Teams are important for the success of any organization or country.  Wise leaders recognize that they cannot do everything on their own.  They are very aware that they need a staff around them to help them accomplish their goals.  Solomon was a very wise leader and surrounded himself with competent and loyal men who were able to help Solomon accomplish incredible things.  Solomon enjoyed a great and tranquil reign because of God’s blessings in his life.  These blessings were in a variety of areas.

SOLOMON HAD A POWERFUL TEAM: Perhaps one of the greatest demonstrations of Solomon’s wisdom was his ability to delegate responsibilities to a variety of men in a variety of different areas.  Solomon trusted he team and let them do their jobs so that he could concentrate on the things that gave him the greatest level of production.  Besides having a team of leaders who were surrounding him, he had a team of leaders responsible for different geographic locations.  Leaders must realize that they cannot do everything on their own so they entrust great responsibilities to other qualified people that they must trust to do the work that needs to be done.  The leader who does not delegate will go crazy but will also be very unproductive.

SOLOMON ENJOYED PEACEFUL TIMES: David lived through war after war both with foreign nations as well as civil war within Israel.  Solomon did not need to face any of these battles.  He reigned in a time of great peace and prosperity.  There were several reasons for this.  He enjoyed the peace that David fought to provide.  His team was very effective at providing for all of the needs of the kingdom.  His wisdom attracted men to him instead of being threatened by his military might.  The nations were subdued by the power of his mind and not his military.  However, the greatest reason for this peace and prosperity was the blessing of God.

SOLOMON WAS A PRACTICAL TEACHER: God gave Solomon great wisdom just as he had requested and the nations of the world came to hear him speak and teach on a variety of subjects.  Solomon was an expert in forestry and agriculture and could teach all who came to hear him how to be more productive with the crops, animals and natural resources.  A wise man knows how to use what he has effectively and will be used to bless others as he teaches them what he knows.  Solomon’s wisdom was a powerful tool that produced both peace and prosperity in his times.  We will be wise to expand our influence through our ability to teach others.
