Psalm 103:1-22

Forgetting is a very easy thing for us to do sometimes.  Unfortunately, the things that we should forget like offenses against us or sinful thoughts are very hard for us to forget.  Then there are the things that we should never forget like the grace of God, the blessings we receive and our responsibility to bless His name that are very easy for us to forget.  We need to constantly remind ourselves to bless the Lord, be thankful to Him and constantly consider all that He has done for us and in us.  The focus of our minds should be on the goodness and blessings of God which should lead us to a life of praising Him.

WE SHOULD BLESS THE LORD FOR HIS FORGIVENESS: Without a doubt, the greatest blessing that we receive from God and the best motive we have for praising the Lord is the fact that He grants us forgiveness.  We must never forget the fact that through Christ God has provided forgiveness of sin.  We were in a pit of vile wretchedness and He reached down and took us out of that pit and made us objects of His grace, mercy and love.  He has given us new strength to come out of the slime of the pit of sin to be able to soar in the heights of His righteousness.  He has taken away the condemnation that is associated with sin and removed our guilt as far away from us as the east is from the west.  God knows the depth of our weaknesses and He is gracious to treat us with loving-kindness and mercy.  Of course all of this forgiveness is conditional upon our fear of Him and trusting in the Word He has revealed to us about the path of redemption through Christ.

WE SHOULD BLESS THE LORD FOR HIS FAVOR: God goes beyond the incredible blessing of forgiveness and adds to that blessing the gift of His favor.  God knows the frailty of our lives and the fact that we are here today and tomorrow we will be gone.  Our brief passage on this earth is just a blip on the screen of eternity.  Nonetheless, He blesses us with the favor of His steadfast and eternal love.  God’s authority and power is limitless and is established for all of eternity.  He is over all of the angels and is King over all of the universe nothing is over Him and nothing can be a challenge to His sovereignty.  Yet, God takes the time and the care to bless us with the favor of His love and to transform us into the image of His Son Jesus Christ.  It is amazing that God would even take note of us, but He goes far beyond noticing us to loving us and blessing us with the favor of His goodness.
