Psalm 119:161-168

Love for God’s Word is beneficial to every area of our lives.  When we love God’s Word we will spend time with it and we will be obedient to it.  We cannot obey that which we do not know and we will not obey that which we do not love.  It is very easy to say that we love God’s Word, but the true proof of love is not in our declarations but through our demonstrations of Love.  If we love the Word of God we will look forward to our times of study, we will find ourselves thinking about that which we have learned throughout the day and we will be obedient to that which the Scriptures command.  This attitude towards God’s Word will bring about great blessings in our lives.

THE LOVE OF GOD’S WORD BRINGS US JOY: The kind of joy that God’s Word brings to our lives is the kind that transcends any circumstances that we might face.  Even when we are being persecuted without cause; the love of God’s Word will fill our hearts with joy.  God’s Word is a treasure that outweighs any weight of suffering that may occur in our lives.  We must stand firm in the face of attacks and always be ready to fill our minds with the truth when all around us are trying to get us to believe the lies of this world.  The psalmist sets aside seven times in the day when He praises the Lord and rejoices in His Word.  If we truly love God’s Word, we will not just set aside one morning a week to study God’s Word.  We will not even be satisfied with a daily devotional time in God’s Word.  We will seek to saturate our lives and constantly be exposed to and rejoicing in the Word of God.  This dedication to and love for the Word of God will flood our hearts with rejoicing in the presence of God.

THE LOVE OF GOD’S WORD BRINGS US PEACE:  God’s Word also brings peace to our life that does not require us to be experiencing tranquil circumstances in our lives.  God’s Word gives us stability in life that keeps us from stumbling when things get difficult.  God’s Word inspires hope for salvation that produces obedience; and in that hope and obedience we experience peace.  The lack of peace in our lives happens when we allow ourselves to become distracted from the hope promised in God’s Word or be tempted to disobey God’s Word.  We must love the Word of God, commit ourselves to following the Word of God and then we will experience the peace of God in every circumstance of life.  God sees all that we do and think.  Nothing is hidden from His sight.  If we walk in rebellion against God there is no way that we can experience peace because we know that we will be judged by God.  However, if we love and obey God’s Word we will experience a peace from God because we will be assured that we are pleasing the Lord.  There is great peace to be found in pleasing the Lord.
