Romans 5:6-11

                                                                     Romans 5:6-11

For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die—but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

The word of Christ in the lives of believers is astounding and transformative.  He changes everything taking us from a life of death and condemnation to a life of joy and reconciliation.  This is all accomplished through His death, resurrection, and ministry on our behalf.  After all Christ has done for us, there is nothing too great that we could not do to please Him.

CHRIST DIED FOR US WHEN WE WERE ENEMIES: The fact that the sacrifice for our sin was made by Christ when we were the enemies of God should bring comfort and security to every believer.  If He loved us so much when we were His enemies, His love will be even more secure now that we have been reconciled to Him.  This kind of love is beyond human understanding and comprehension.  We might be willing to die for a friend or loved one, but to die for an enemy is not normal for us.  God’s love is far from normal; it is supernatural.

CHRIST ROSE FOR US SO WE MAY BE CHILDREN: The blood of Christ justifies us from our sin, but the fact that Jesus rose from the grave demonstrates that the Father fully accepted the death of Christ as punishment for sin.  Since our sin was placed on Jesus, and the righteousness of Jesus was placed on all who believe, we, in Christ, are the children of God. Jesus intercedes with God on our behalf which makes our salvation fully secure because He who paid for our sin is the Son of God who takes all our sin away and makes us like Him.

CHRIST LIVES IN US SO WE CAN REJOICE: Christ not only lives in the presence of the Father, but through the Holy Spirit, He lives in all who believe.  The presence of the Spirit in our lives is the source of great rejoicing because it is the sign of our salvation.  It is a wonderful thing to be forgiven and to see our lives being conformed to the image of Christ.  The Christian life should always be one of great joy.

APPLICATION: Thank God for His amazing grace and love that moves Him to take on the sins of the world that we might be saved.  Rest in the salvation we have in the Lord Jesus knowing that Jesus is at the right hand of the Father representing us.  Rejoice in the glory of the salvation we have in Christ.
