Hebrews 2:10-13

For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering.  For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one source.  That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers, saying, “I will tell of your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will sing your praise.”  And again, “I will put my trust in him.”  And again, “Behold, I and the children God has given me.”

The work of Christ on our behalf leaves nothing lacking for all who believe on Him.  He has blessed us in amazing ways that we could never deserve or earn.  Through His creation, incarnation, and crucifixion, we have been given eternal life and joined the family of God.  His work on our behalf is our greatest blessing and should motivate our praise and worship.

WE ARE SAVED THROUGH CHRIST: God has made salvation possible to us through the suffering of Jesus.  The author of Hebrews describes our salvation as “bringing many sons to glory.”  So, we understand that in salvation we become sons and daughters of God.  We are given the awesome privilege of joining the family of God and participating is His glory.  There is nothing glorious about our sinful state, but In Christ we share in His glory.  God created everything by His power and for His glory.  Sin infected that creation and must be expelled from creation so that it might fulfill its purpose.  The only way for that to be accomplished was through the suffering of Christ.  His perfection is eternal and complete but through salvation we are perfected as His creation.

WE ARE SANCTIFIED BY CHRIST: We are not only rescued from our sin through salvation, but we are also released from the power and presence of sin through the sanctification that salvation makes possible.  Christ sets us apart for Himself and makes us holy as He is holy.  Sin is not only forgiven but it will one day be completely irradicated from our lives.  We will live eternally completely free from the influence or the effects of sin.  This glorious gift comes to us from God through Christ.

WE ARE SONS WITH CHRIST: Jesus calls us brothers because we have joined Him as sons and daughters of Christ.  It is not that we become gods but that we are partakers of the divine nature through the work of the Trinity on our behalf.  Through the work of Christ on our behalf, we become members of the family of God.  This is accomplished by putting our trust on the Lord Jesus Christ.  It is beyond belief that we could be taken from our lives of sin and shame to enjoy being members of the family of God.

APPLICATION: Rejoice in the reality of our salvation.  Live out the position we have in sanctification.  Glorify God because of our filiation.
