1 Chronicles 22:1-19
Worship was a key focus of David’s life and building a place
for worship was one of the deepest desires of David’s heart. God had prevented David from building the
temple because of his many battles and wars.
However God had promised that his son would build the temple. David wanted to facilitate that in any way
that he could. He wanted to have as much
participation in this project as possible without rebelling against the
commands and wishes of the Lord. David was
passionate about worshiping and praising the Lord. David recognized the greatness of the Lord
and wanted His greatness to be known in all the nations of the world. God is pleased when we are passionate about
Him and He desires to be praised by every nation on the earth. This must become the focus of and the driving
force that gives meaning to our lives.
DAVID PROVIDES FOR THE BUILDING OF THE TEMPLE: David
accepted the fact that he would not be allowed to build the temple, but he was
also thrilled at the prospect of his son building the temple. He wanted to make sure that Solomon would
have everything that he needed to make this one of the key focuses of Solomon’s
administration. David organized workers
to start cutting the stones and bringing them to the building site. David had timber and bronze stacked so high
that it was impossible to weigh or calculate how much there was. He also amasses huge quantities of silver and
gold and began to train the workers who would to the artwork of the
temple. David could have concentrated on
amassing his own personal wealth instead of focusing on the temple, but his
priority was the worship of the Lord. As
parents and leaders we must be concerned with and facilitate the success of
future generations. The worship of God
must be our priority and we must do all we can to spread His fame to the
nations of the world.
DAVID PROMOTES THE
BUILDING OF THE TEMPLE: Not only did David stockpile tons of building supplies
for the construction of the temple; he also promoted the building of the temple
by instructing and motivating his successor to get the job done. He reminded Solomon of the promise of the
Lord that he would be the one to build the temple. David challenges Solomon to be faithful to
the Lord and focus on the task that was at hand. David knew that Solomon was young and could
be easily distracted by the task at hand.
David enlisted the help of other leaders to remind Solomon of this
priority and to help him be successful.
He did not want all of these supplies to simply go to waste, or be
diverted to some other godless project.
Projects are successful because all the necessary products are available
and the right people are motivated to do the work. David wants to make sure that this project is
a success. It is our job to promote the
worship of God in the nations of the world through our work and our words. We should generously give of our resources to
this end and freely speak of the greatness of the Lord to every nation, tribe
and tongue.
