Psalm 114:1-9

God delights in making something out of nothing.  From the beginning He created all that exists out of absolutely nothing; He simply spoke everything into existence.  He continues to be in the business of doing that in the lives of men and nations.  He takes sinful “nothing men” and makes them into His own likeness through Christ.  God takes sinful “nothing nations” and establishes it to accomplish His purpose.  God is all about doing awesome things with that which was awful.  He delights in making the ordinary extraordinary.  It’s what He has always done and it’s what He is doing in your life and mine.

GOD’S PRESENCE MAKES THE WEAK STRONG: Israel was enslaved in the land of Egypt without hope and power until God’s presence was seen in the nation.  He determined to deliver this frail and hopeless nation even though they were powerless to help themselves.  There were many obstacles that stood in the way of their freedom, but they were of no consequence because God was with them.  The Red Sea opened up so that the people could pass through on dry ground.  The Jordan River mounted up on one side like a dam in order for the people to be able to cross.  Rocks gave water and mountains shook before the powerful nation of Israel because God was with them.  No matter how weak we may feel; the presence of God should always encourage and strengthen us because He can always make us strong.

GOD’S POWER MAKES THE STRONG WEAK: Those who would try to thwart the plan of God may look formidable at times.  They often seem so strong that we are overwhelmed by the obstacles that stand in our way.  The sea seems deep and rough the mountains seem high and treacherous and the rocks seem to be unbreakable.  However, in the power of God’s almighty hands these problems can simply melt away at His bidding.  All enemies of God should stand up and take notice that God’s power can overthrow the strongest opposition and He can transform the walls that surround us into paths of deliverance and the rocks that threaten us in to flowing streams that provide for our needs.  God can weaken the strongest enemy and transform them into our greatest ally according to His power and will.
