Job 39:1-40

God continues to question Job’s claim of wisdom through the wonder of creation.  In the previous chapter He used the sky the stars and the sea as a means of demonstrating His care and control.  In this chapter God turns to the animal world and asks Job if he can explain why or how a wide variety of animals behave as they do.  Of course the answer to each of these rhetorical questions is no.  God demonstrates that His knowledge and creativity far exceeds anything that Job, his friends or any of us possess.  God is intimately aware of every aspect of His creation.  If He has such great knowledge of the animals; we should take great comfort in His knowledge of our lives and His care for us.

GOD HAS A CLEAR PLAN IN CREATION: Every aspect of God’s creation is carefully planned.  He not only knows exactly how every animal works and what happens to it; He has designed each of them to function according to His plan.  The creation is not a conglomeration of chance; rather it has been carefully designed and determined by God Himself.  We can rest assured that if God has taken such care in planning the creation of the animals that He has taken a far more active role in His plans for us.  Job must recognize that His circumstance are not just by chance, but are a part of what God has planned for his life.  We too will rest much easier independently of the circumstances we face if we will recognize and remember that God’s plan for our lives is active and real.  We are not the hopeless victims of circumstance.  We are the results of a carefully orchestrated plan by a loving and wise God.

GOD HAS A CLEAR PURPOSE IN CREATION: Job has repeatedly asked the question: “why?”  He does not come up with any viable solutions to his dilemma.  The same will often be very true for us.  We will face circumstances in our lives for which we will not be able to find an explanation.  There is comfort in knowing the purpose for difficult or painful experiences.  However, we seldom have a clear or accurate perception of this purpose.  We must constantly remind ourselves that God does have a purpose.  He has a wisely designed and a sovereignly orchestrated purpose for every event of our lives.  He may not grant us an understanding of the purpose beyond the circumstances except that we simply trust Him.  God does not owe us explanations, but we do owe God our faith and worship.
