Psalms 2:1-12

It is a frustrating and painful thing to move an immovable object; kind of like beating one’s head against a wall.  God is the sovereign creator of the universe; His power is unquestionable and unchangeable.  However, men who have gained some sort of power over the nations of the world through politics mistakenly think that they are in charge and in control.  Many of these leaders go so far as to challenge the sovereign Lord or question His existence.   This is a grave mistake and will bring about great pain and destruction.  No matter what happens on this earth or who seems to be in power in the capitals of the nations; God is the one who is truly in control.  This should inspire us with both comfort and fear.

THE LORD LAUGHS AT THE LEADER’S POWER: The nations of the world all go through a process of determining their leadership.  Some nations vote while other nations have leaders who impose their leadership through force.  However that leader is determined; it is a very common thing for these leaders to become proud because of the power they wield.  As impressive as some nations and their leaders may be; none of them are truly in control of their nations or even their own fate.  These arrogant men make declarations of war and pretend that they have real power, but the reality is that they are under the mighty hand of God.  There will be a time in the future just as there was in the past where political leaders will think that they can prevent the coming of Christ to rule this earth.  They are sorely mistaken.  Just as Herod learned at the first coming of Christ, the anti-Christ will learn at the second coming of Christ that He is an unmovable and undefeatable person who has all the power of the universe at His disposal.  We need not fear the power of the people who are in office today.  They may boast of great things, but the truth is that they are under the hand of God.

THE LEADERS LEARN FROM THE LORD’S POWER: The reality is that God the Father has determined that Jesus Christ is the eternal King of this world.  He reigns today at the right hand of the Father and He will reign for a thousand years during the Millennial reign of Christ on the Earth and extending for all of eternity in the New Jerusalem better known as heaven.  All of the nations of the world and the leaders of those nations will fall in submission and worship before His holy name.  He will inherit all of the nations as His possession and He will be the unquestioned and unchallenged leader of all the nations.  In light of this reality; the current leaders of the world ought to live in fear before the Lord and learn to serve Him with honor, respect, love and joy.  They ought to do all that they can to demonstrate their current allegiance to His reign so that when He returns to assume the physical throne of the world they will already be in submission to Him and not have to be broken by Him.  All men and all nations will one day worship the Lord.  They question is if they will do so because of love from a willing and reverent heart, or will they do so by force from a wicked and rebellious heart.
