Song of Solomon 8:1-14
We conclude this unique book with words from the bride to
the groom. Words of affection are
important for both husband and wife to express as they delve deeper into a
relationship with one another. We have
seen Solomon describe the beauty of his bride and the desire that he has for
her. Now we get a look into the mind of
the bride and her longing for her husband and desire to be close to him. There is also a clear communication between
the bride and the daughters of Jerusalem concerning how to preserve oneself for
the kind of love that the bride is now experiencing. The joy of love is immense and strong but it
is meant to be bridled until the proper time.
Many men and women never experience the love described in this book
because they try to enjoy the pleasure of this love without waiting for the
commitment of marriage. The wonder of
marriage requires waiting for marriage.
THE BRIDE WANTS THE GROOM: The bride tells the groom that
she wishes that he were like her little brother so that she could be with him
all the time and even kiss him in public without attracting the attention of
other people. She admires him and longs
to be by his side all the time. His
embrace is her joy and she feels secure in his arms so that she never wants to
leave them. This kind of love must be
waited for and must not be awaken before its time. The bride is thankful for the mother who
raised her lover and she has set a seal upon her heart so that she will be his
and his alone. Her heart is jealous of
his love and she will not share him with another. Her love will not be quenched and it cannot
be bought for any price. She has given
herself freely to Him and will be his forever.
THE BRIDE WARNS THE GIRLS: There are other girls who are
still not married and the daughters of Jerusalem want to know how they can
preserve their sisters so that they will be able to enjoy the type of love that
the bride is now enjoying. The clear
instruction is to build a wall of protection around these young women so that
they will not be violated or tempted before the time that they can give
themselves freely in marriage. Solomon
is the object of her affection and she has preserved herself for him. When they face times of separation when he is
away on the business of the kingdom she will wait for him and welcome him when
he comes home. He desire is for him to
come back quickly because her heart belongs to him as she had preserved herself
for him from the time of her childhood.
